Watch of the Month - October 2018

Picture

Welcome back to another WOTM ! This month I have chosen the value packed and affordable Hamilton Khaki Navy Scuba dive watch. This iteration of the Navy is also Halloween appropiate...

The watch is a rather simple, yet slightly elegant 100M steel dive watch which sits in a 40MM case. The watch houses the new Hamilton H-20 caliber which gives the end user 70 hours of power reserve and a decent accuracy. The applied lumed markers themselves slightly remind me of vintage dive watches from the past and early era of divers such as the Superocean by Breitling, or the Zodiac divers. It features either a custom color coordinated Nato strap or a stainless steel bracelet. The best part about this watch is its’ price, under $500. This watch ticks all the boxes including Sapphire crystal, reliable ETA movement, 100M of water resistance, and it is produced by a decent entry level Swiss Made brand.

The main component of a mechanical movement is the mainspring, a spring that gradually unwinds and transmits energy. A mechanical watch will keep accurate time despite requiring winding up if it's manual. ... Inside an automatic watch sits a small weighted rotor that has to oscillate in order to wind the mainspring.
