LeSablier Aviateur Pilot Watch Review - Modern Take on the traditional Aviation Watch

Case

Picture
This 41MM pilot watch features a sandblasted 316L Stainless steel case with a nice circular base and curved blocky lugs. The crown is rather small and stays out of the way of your wrist, and even features a small Hourglass logo which I found to be a nice touch. The lugs are 22MM, definitely in tune with the case dimensions and overall ratio. It certainly sits correct on the wrist and rides flat but appears very dimensional when viewed from the top due to the case shape. The case itself is only 5ATM water resistant, which is typical for an aviation watch. Heading to the caseback, it is held on by four screws and is completely polished, which is a nice diversion from the sandblasted case. This is a limited edition timepiece so the back does display your unique # and other basic specifications, as well as a neat paisley style design.

Dial

Picture
The dial on this Series A has a no nonsense day and night tool watch look. A large railroad track surrounds outer portion of the dial for quick minute reference. Heading to the center ring, we get a 24 hour indicator as well as a day and night indicator. The best part about this is, it is actually lumed! Traditional sword style lumed hands are also placed nicely. If you look under 12:00 , they have placed the classic traditional triangle reference which dates back to the early flieger watches of World War 2. Lastly, a nice domed sapphire crystal with Anti-Reflective coating for better legibility in high light conditions is utilized on this model.

Movement

The Aviatuer featues a swiss made Ronda 515.24H Quartz movement with an option to operate the hour hand separately, or along with the minute hand. This is a nice feature for quickly switching time zones. It is rather accurate as most swiss quartz movements are, and powered by a battery with a few years of charge.

Supplied Leather Band

Picture
The brown genuine leather band features a typical steel signed buckle, and is quite comfortable. It gets the job done, but is not something to be raved about. However, it is comfortable, supple, and literally requires no break-in period.

Conclusion

At around $300, the Aviatuer definitely offers some unique styling and features, which is rare to see at this pricepoint. It is fairly well finished and constructed, comfortable on the wrist, and contains a reliable swiss movement. If you are in the market for a reliable, accurate, and affordable pilots watch but do not have the funds for a higher end Swiss automatic flieger/pilot this is certainly a road you may want to travel down. Thanks for taking the time to read!

The main component of a mechanical movement is the mainspring, a spring that gradually unwinds and transmits energy. A mechanical watch will keep accurate time despite requiring winding up if it's manual. ... Inside an automatic watch sits a small weighted rotor that has to oscillate in order to wind the mainspring.
