Case and Dial
The Hamburg based Sternglas brand is based on German Bauhaus design and that is exactly what they have incorporated into this 38MM slim 2 handed date watch. The case is completely polished 316L stainless steel with a pull/push crown at 3:00 which retains 50M of water resistance. The actual case is very round with short 22MM lugs. This watch truly does wear like a 38MM watch and is barely noticeable when on wrist, which can be a good or bad thing. A nice touch is the noticeable domed genuine sapphire crystal that sits on top of the egg white dial. The hands themselves are actually blue , but painted blue instead of heat treated which is definitely normal at this pricepoint. The caseback is polished as well and held down with real screws which I thought is proper and looks great. Overall, they definitely knocked it out of the park in terms of bauhaus design, it is spot on. The fonts and print work for the minute track are thin and precise as they should be.
The movement utilized here is the Swiss Quartz Ronda 714 movement. This is your typical 2 handed date Quartz movement which is overall a decent movement. You will get superb accuracy as well as reliability with this one, for sure. ( 5 Year Battery Life )
The strap is one of the strong points in my opinion, and can make or break a watch upon first
inspection. This black genuine leather 22/20MM band is one of the most comfortable straps I have worn. It is super flexible, but holds its’ composition at the same time. A simple minimalist polished buckle, along with a Quick-Release system are also noteworthy and shows some extra value thrown in for this affordable timepiece.
Conclusion and Discount Code
So, a 38MM Bauhaus design watch from a Microbrand. These are quite hard to find! To be quite honest, many brands strive for the whole German Bauhaus design and many fail. I think they succeeded in design and wearability on this model. The dimensions come correct, as well as the finishing, and supplied band. They did offer me a discount code which will save you 10 Euros on a Sternglas german timepiece ( Enter code WATCHADDICT10 at checkout , and No I do not make money from this code ).
