TIMEX ALLIED COASTLINE 43MM Watch Review - Classic Affordable Everyday Watch

Picture

Today we will take a closer look at a recent purchase of my own, the Timex Allied Coastline 43MM. This watch was somewhat of an impulse purchase and I was really drawn towards the field/diver aesthetic this dial exemplifies. It is about $100 USD and its not all that bad for the money.

Case

Picture

The low lead brass grey matte finished case is 43MM in diameter and 12MM thick while maintaining small 20MM lugs. This is quite odd because most 43MM cases usually have a 22MM lug width. It is probably the only thing I do not like about this piece. Covering the black dial
is a mineral crystal while on the backside we get a stainless steel caseback. The crown remains unsigned and goes along well with the playful diver/field theme here. There is also a 60 click unidirectional rotating bezel with a nice coin edge side and aluminum brushed insert.

Dial

Picture
The Dial is a rather symmetrical one and very tool oriented. This black dial contains a 24 hour time scale along with bold white arabic numerals topped off by a red triangle for a little pop of color. We also get a date aperture at the 3:00 position which slightly blends in with the 24 hour scale. I like that timex kept the date window black with white numerals to match the dial. From the long spear seconds hand to the partially lumed skeletonized bold white hands everything matches in terms of size.

Movement

When buying a watch at under $100 or so we cannot always expect an automatic movement from every brand. This watch utilizes a Japanese Date Quartz movement operated by a battery beneath the caseback. I am
not 100% sure on the exact caliber number so I will stay quiet. Timex does not state the movement on their website nor in the manual supplied with the watch. There is one upside to this movement though, it will gain a few seconds a month and last a very long time with regular battery changes.

INDIGLO / LUME

Timex is known for its innovative indiglo lume which runs off the battery in the movement. It basically lights up the entire dial by pressing the crown inwards and will last as long as you are pushing the crown down. It certainly works amazing and is my first time experiencing the function. The dial glows a nice light blue and you can read the time no matter how dark it is at any given moment at a glance. I have dropped a short video below showing the indiglo and you can also see it in my YouTube video. A small ammount of lume is also applied to the outer portion of the hour and minutes hand.

Bracelet ( Watch is pictured on Aftermarket Canvas Strap )

Picture
The bracelet supplied on this variation ( others come with Silicone strap for a bit cheaper ) isn’t half bad for the $100 total package but it is also is not amazing either. Believe me, it is wearable and wont pull too much arm hair but the overall finishing and cut on the stainless steel links are a bit flat. The links are held in by pins and we get a stamped clsdp with Timex etched in. There are no micro adjustments so one must get a perfect fit. In my opinion, id go for the silicone strap version and save the money.

Conclusion
The Timex Allied series certainly offers a great
visual appearance and unique styling cues from the past and present while staying true to the brands current market position, providing affordable and stylish watches that function. Timex was originally produced in the USA in its hayday and the history is something to take into account when purchasing one. If you like a diving style watch with a super bright lume but need a reliable quartz movement I can definitely reccommend grabbing one of these while they last. The price is right and it hey, its only $100.

Where to Purchase? How Much?

The watch is available at www.Timex.com or through Amazon ( Link Below ). The watch is actually a bit cheaper on Amazon which does not surprise me.

The main component of a mechanical movement is the mainspring, a spring that gradually unwinds and transmits energy. A mechanical watch will keep accurate time despite requiring winding up if it's manual. ... Inside an automatic watch sits a small weighted rotor that has to oscillate in order to wind the mainspring.
