Spinnaker Watch Company has released another appealing model named the Hull in 5 different color variations in a “Panerai” style case for April. Today were going to go over some basics and what I think of the overall finished product. Please do remember you can save 20% ln any Spinnaker using my special discount code WA20 this includes free shipping worldwide as well.
The case of the Hull is comprised of 316L solid stainless steel with a mix of brushed and polished surfaces. The exact diameter measures in at 42MM and in terms of height we are looking at 12MM. The 22MM lugs are rather short so when on the wrist the circular case shape really exposes itself and pops. Spinnaker gives us 100M of water resistance with a screwed down signed crown as well so you can definitely take this watch in the water with you as you please.
On this variation we have a very appealing fumee textured green dial which appears to give off different hues of green as it reaches the center portion of the dial in the light. The actual dial is a sandwich dial with the lumed markers beneath the actual dial which is quite satisfying. Spinnaker chose to use Superluminova which is a great lume to pick as it does last quite a long time from my testing. On top of this green dial lays a genuine hardened mineral crystal . The crystal is also domed and you get a nice glimpse of that when you look slightly above the brushed bezel. The sword style hands are lumed as well and we do get a nice lollipop seconds hand with a lumed circle. Overall the aesthetic of the case most certainly match the dial, layout, and hands.
Inside the Spinnaker Hull resides the common Seiko NH35 automatic movement which features 24 jewels along with hacking/hand wind capability. I tested the watch over 24 hours and my test model gained 4 seconds which is good in my book. We get a nice glimpse of the movement through the exhibition mineral caseback which is covered slightly by the Spinnaker mainsail logo. You can expect around a 40 hour power reserve with this movement as well. There is no denying that this is not a super high end movement nor an expensive one but in affordable watches such as this one it is most definitely the best option. Id choose a NH35 over a Myota 8 series movement any day of the week!
Typical on all spinnaker watches this watch is equipped with a genuine leather slightly aged water resistant 22MM strap. The strap features white hand stitch at each lug end for a bit of style and character. The buckle Is brushed in 316L steel and signed "Spinnaker".
I will tell you that these straps are actually really waterproof and I have taken mine into the water many times and once it dries it is perfectly fine and back to normal. This watch does look absolutely stunning on a NATO strap or a rubber strap as well.
The Spinnaker Hull is certainly not an original design but pays tribute to older Italian watches and others. These types of watches have been circulating the market for some time from many different brands and it is not a bad thing at all. I personally am a fan of the case style and layer dial but would not shell out 5,000 or more for a Panerai because I do not think they are worth it. A watch like this that is well made and contains a decent movement for a decent price is a no brainer, its a great watch to add to the collection.
