4 of my favorite Pre SIHH 2018 Watch Releases

SIHH is set to open doors in a couple of days to visitors, exhibitors, and media outlets and the show should be a good one this year even though attendance has declined slightly over the past few years due to the Swiss watch industries decline which is due to the fall of the asian market, smart watches, and generally a new customer base as younger adults are not picking up the tradition of a mechanical watch as much as they used to in my opinion, atleast here in the United States. Let us take a look at 4 Pre-SIHH watch releases from some very resepctable swiss watchmakers.

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Re Edition to the 1993 Debut Model

Picture
This watch from luxury swiss house Audemars Piguet is essentially the same original Offshore that was released in 1993 with the older subdial design and really sparked the whole ROO craze. It is being re released with a nice blue dial and should be a hit for Royal Oak Offshore lovers. It features a 42MM diameter with a guilloche dial just like the original but they did upgrade the movement.

Lange Sohne 1815 “Walter Lange”

German watchmaker Lange Sohne has announced the release of a 1815 model paying homage to Walter Lange. Last year the direct descendant of Ferdinand Lange and creator of most modern Lange pieces passed away and this piece will pay tribute to his excellent work and life.

Jaeger Le Coultre Reverso Tribute Duoface “Casa Fagliano”

JLC unveiled their newest addition to the tribute JLC Reverso Duo Face line prior to the official SIHH exhibition and it really flows well. This model dubbed the “Casa Fagliano” features an 18K pink gold case including some updates. The main attraction for JLC fans in my opinion is the strap which really amazed me as they collaborated with well known Argentine bootmakers Casa Fagliano and added a two piece brown cordovan strap which suits the pink gold case oh so well. Also, I am from Argentina and have family there so this one is close to my heart and props to JLC for doing this.

Montblanc Timewalker in house manufacture Chronograph

Picture

Montblanc watches are generally not my thing. I have experienced every single one of their current models this past year during a two hour visit to their flagship boutique in New York. One thing that really turns me off about the brand is the steep discounts offered from grey market dealers which really kill the brands value and resell. Also, the quality of some of their flagship models just was not there for the price in terms of fit and finish, including many ETA and Valjoux movements which were not heavily
modified nor decorated. However, for up to 75% off retail they can be a good value proposition for a collector to add some new spice to their collection. ANYWAY, This new release is their famous timewalker chronograph which actually contains a full in house manufactured movement MB 25.10 which is definitely a good look when looking at the 7750s they used in the earlier additions of the Timewalker chronograph.

The main component of a mechanical movement is the mainspring, a spring that gradually unwinds and transmits energy. A mechanical watch will keep accurate time despite requiring winding up if it's manual. ... Inside an automatic watch sits a small weighted rotor that has to oscillate in order to wind the mainspring.
